His vegetable garden has also been featured in numerous magazines, including Gardens Illustrated, the Green Scene, Woman's Day, Family Circle, and on the cover of the Herb Companion.
During the Ford Administration, Derek worked as a consultant on garden design to The White House. His best-selling book The White House Vegetable Garden, now available as an eBook, describes his experiences and his designs for a "Garden For America." The White House Vegetable Garden explains how to plan the garden, acquire the necessary materials, germinate seedlings, plant them, maintain them, and how to harvest vegetables to achieve good long-term, sustainable results. For those lacking adequate growing space, he also describes how to achieve the same results using indoor containers.
Derek is now working on a second book about Vincent van Gogh and a mystery romance novel set in the 1820's, based on a true story he uncovered while visiting Scotland and New Zealand. Derek will continue to offer new, fresh works and these will be offered in eBook format as they become available.
