Description: Union troops consisting of four divisions (23,000 men) led by Major General George H. Thomas (George Henry Thomas; July 31, 1816-March 28, 1870), at right, scaling and attacking the Confederate positions (14,000 men) at the center of the Rebel defense line on Missionary Ridge, Tennessee, November 25, 1863, which resulted in an overwhelming Federal victory where the Federals suffered more than 5,800 casualties and the Confederates more than 6,600 casualties; this battle was part of the overall Chattanooga Campaign waged by Major General Ulysses S. Grant (Hiram Ulysses Grant; April 27, 1822-July 23, 1885), heading the Union Military Division of the Mississippi, against the Army of Tennessee, commanded by the indecisive Confederate General Braxton Bragg (March 22, 1817-September 27, 1876), a battle where almost all of Bragg's army was routed, with the exception of the division and two brigades led by the brilliant and heroic Confederate Major General Patrick R. Cleburne (Patrick Ronayne Cleburne; March 16, 1828-November 30, 1864), who conducted a stubborn rear-guard defense that prevented Bragg's army from being captured;
