Description: Seven-time All Star, two-time American League MVP and National Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee, "The Iron Horse" Lou Gehrig (Henry Louis Gehrig; Ludwig Heinrich Gehrig; 1903-1941) drops his bat after a hit in 1938. Gehrig played from 1923-1939 and amassed career totals of a.340 batting average (BA), 493 home runs (HR), 2,721 hits and 1,995 runs batted in (RBI). Sadly, Gehrig was forced into retirement in 1939 after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Gehrig is perfectly profiled by Gary Cooper (who won an Academy Award for his performance) in the 1942 film The Pride of the Yankees;
