Description: Storming of Chapultepec; 1847 lithograph depicting U.S. forces in the battle at Chapultepec, the last action before the U.S. attack on Mexico City in the Mexican-American War (1846-1848); U.S. Gen. Winfield Scott ( June 13, 1786-May 29, 1866) deployed 7,200 men in his final assault before attacking Mexico City against 1,000 troops of Mexican President Santa Anna (Antonio de Padua Maria Severino Lopez de Santa Anna y Perez de Lebron; February 21, 1794-June 21, 1876) inside the city and 4,000 more of his men positioned at fortifications in the area; about 100 Mexican boy cadets bravely tried in vain to defend the Mexican Military Academy; the U.S. victory at Chapultepec opened the way to Mexico City, but at a cost of 130 U.S. soldiers killed and 29 missing; Santa Anna fled the city, retreating to Puebla, Mexico;
