William Jenkins Worth (March 1, 1794-May 7, 1848) during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848); Churubusco guarded the approaches to Mexico City; Mexican Gen. Santa Anna (Antonio de Padua Maria Severino Lopez de Santa Anna y Perez de Lebron; February 21, 1794-June 21, 1876), then also president of Mexico, led his troops into a fortress that had been a church and convent, to defend against U.S. Gen.
