Title: Mrs. Evalyn Walsh McLean, Owner of the Hope Diamond

Description: Mrs. Evalyn Walsh McLean (1886-1947), owner of the allegedly cursed Hope Diamond, who is shown with her son Vinson Walsh McLean, an epileptic, who was killed at the age of nine following an accident; Evalyn's gold mine owner father left her a huge fortune, and she also married into another fortune when wedding newspaper heir Edward Beale McLean (1889-1941), owner of the Washington Post and the Cincinnati Enquirer; both of them managed to lavishly spend away two great fortunes, estimated by today's standards in the billions (they gave, for instance a birthday party for their pet dog, shown in this photo, that cost more than $1 million while the dog pranced about wearing the Hope Diamond); both had many affairs, with Edward McLean becoming an alcoholic, dying in an insane asylum, and Evalyn became addicted to morphine; both ended their lives in near poverty.
