Title: Robert Ford

Description: Robert Ford (Robert Newton Ford, 1862-1892), American outlaw and infamous killer of outlaw Jesse James, who, on April 3, 1882, while James was living with his family in St. Joseph, Missouri, under the alias of Howard, shot James in the back of the head, while the notorious outlaw was unarmed and with his back to Ford, while standing on a chair to dust off a picture on a wall; Ford and his brother, Charles Ford (Charles Wilson Ford; 1857-1884), who was present when James was killed, were both tried, convicted and sentenced to death by hanging for murdering Jesse James within one hour after they surrendered to authorities; two hours later Missouri Governor Thomas T. Crittenden (1832-1909) pardoned the Fords; they later received a small portion of the reward posted for James; Charles Ford, suffering from tuberculosis, committed suicide on May 6, 1884; his more notorious brother Bob, who was operating a tent saloon in Creede, Colorado, was shot to death by Edward O'Kelley (or Edward O. Kelley), a town drunk, who simply walked into Ford's saloon and fired two barrels from a shotgun into Ford, killing him on June 8, 1892; O'Kelley was himself killed on January 13, 1904, while attempting to kill a policeman.
